Mack Prichard Is A Tennessee Treasure
It's about time. It's considerably
past time, actually.
Mack and I registered his domain names
February 28, 2004 and ever since then it has
been as soon as I am not a State Employee, ..... as soon
as we do this, and as soon as we get that done, as soon
as I retire (which hasn't made any difference), and, ---
if you know Mack --- you know there is no end to the
projects, the presentations, the next event or effort to save another acre of
Tennessee wilderness. Mack is the hero's hero.
If life going by is flowing like a river, Mack
has had a lot of white water is his. It's time for all
of us who have been helped by Mack all of these years to
let the hero slow down a little and take care of
himself.
Mack and I talked at the
Trails & Trilliums Wine &
Wildflowers
event in Monteagle April 18, 2009 - Mack was honored with the Harry Yeatman Award and Harry and Jean Yeatman were honored
back with the first Tennessee State Naturalist awards
presented by Mack on behalf of our new State Naturalist Randy Hedgepath
who was at an event at Standing Stone that day.
"Mack, I am going on without you" I
said somberly. "Why? Don't you feel well, brother
Ron?" Mack asked back.
"It's not THAT, Mack. I am talking
about the website. I am going to do your website
without you."
"As soon as I get done with ......." was
Mack's reply.
So here we are and I expect anyone who
wants to help to pitch right in.
Here is what I think we
need to do and ideas are welcome.
1.
We need to raise the money, preferably through the sale
of prints of Mack's photographs which number at perhaps
100,000 plus, to digitally archive Mack's photographic
work. TDEC took a stab at it and did not get too
far. We can also incorporate a nonprofit to do
this or get a nonprofit to serve as a sponsor.
2.
We need to help Mack to make as many presentations as
he wishes, paying for his time, his travel expenses at a
leisurely rather than break-neck pace
and a driver if needed, so
that his presentations can be videotaped and converted
into digital form.
3.
Mack has at least two books
that need to be organized and done, either in print or ebook.
4.
Mack wants to print and sell some of his best photos in
limited edition series.
5.
Mack needs to earn some revenue from the above
endeavours so that he can get his house paid off and or
relocate to a more hospitable part of the world.
I drew up the outline of a business plan
for Mack on March 6, 2004 raising these points.
I will be looking for all sorts of
content for this new website here in short order but at
the moment the goal is here on Memorial Day, May 25,
2009, to get this online.
We can start discussing the rest of the
work in short order.
Best wishes,
